This is the revised top 100 for H2 2016. The earlier version missed out a few notable wines including a couple of sublime Pichon Lalandes (78 and 88) a couple of great Californian Chardonnays (Ceritas and Aubert), a stunning 1978 Cote Rotie and a Richebourg, which only just scraped in to the cut. Many good wines did not make it even into the original top 100 like 1964 and 2004 Dom Perignon and 1995 Krug. None of the very good Haut-Baillys from our October dinner made the cut either.
The top 100 for H2 2016 did not include samples of DRC Richebourg 1995, Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle 1978 and Chateau-Lafite Rothschild 1929, all of which were magnificent, but the samples were too small to qualify. With bigger samples the latter two in particular would be strong contenders for a podium. It was a fabulous drinking year against the depressing background of the UK referendum result and Trump's election. In politics 2016 was the year of the charlatan. Fine wine drinking was the perfect distraction.
